Secret museum and coffee shop in a more than 600 year old pharmacy

Uirou Toemon

Café

The people here call it also the second castle of Odawara but it is in fact a pharmacy with a hidden museum and a coffee shop inside. The place exists since 1368 and is very unique, as they produce not only traditional medicine also handmade traditional Japanese sweets. In the coffee shop on the right side you can enjoy Matcha tea and eating the seasonal changing sweets. The place is since more than 600 years a family business and the sweets from Uirou are a well known specialty which just can be bought there. The historical business Uirou has a great collection of more than 500 year old  tools for the production of traditional medicine, daily used items and about the famous "Uirou-Uri" Kabuki. A very special place to visit, not just for Japanese people, but also for English speaking travelers.
