Traditional Japanese Villa

Villa Seikantei

Architecture

The traditional Japanese villa was owned by a man named Nagashige Kuroda in 1906. He lived in Tokyo but used the villa in Odawara during summer and winter. The construction style of the house is called sukiya-zukuri. Compared with the usual traditional building styles, sukiya-zukuri is a more free and playful type of construction. Since 2005 the building is registered as tangible cultural property. From the second floor of the building there is a great view on the Bay of Odawara. The property is free of charge to visit.
